My Wellness Journey
I have worked in Sales in tech and advertising for almost 20yrs, having been part of exciting Silicon Valley tech start ups all the way to big, corporate companies such as Microsoft or Facebook. Living a fast paced life, never feeling rested or fully refreshed was my “normal”. I remember that one day when I landed at London City airport from yet another business trip and realised: I cannot continue my life like this, some things need to change. I’m not well anymore. This was my first step towards my new career path!
Without initially noticing, I started having all the typical signs of a burn out. Additionally, I suddenly experienced excruciating period pain which I had never before. I thought something was seriously wrong with me and I made an appointment to see my doctor. I did not even consider the fact I was burning out. Burning out is a show of weakness. I’m not weak! I’m a strong woman in Tech!
After listening to my symptoms for about 10 minutes my doctor recommend that I either take the contraceptive pill or take anti-depressants and prescription pain killers. I was shocked and angry. I don’t need anti-depressants! I wanted to know what was wrong with me and not take pills to mask the problem. Unfortunately, too many health professionals are so much under pressure, they just do not have the time to listen to their patients.
I didn’t take my doctors advice and didn’t accept any of the medication. At this point I would like to point out that I am absolutely not condoning medical health professionals. They are very much needed to treat illnesses. However, I do belief in living a healthy lifestyle to prevent becoming ill in the first place and thus avoiding to go and see your doctor, taking pressure of yourself and the national health system
I went on my own wellness journey because deep down I knew that all of my issues and health concerns were down to stress. During my "wellness journey” as I love calling it, I have worked with different specialists, coaches and therapists for wellbeing and health in Europe and South East Asia, traveled to award winning wellness resorts and took part in stress and burnout retreats in Thailand and Bali. I could not resist and even went to see a Medicine Man in Bali. You have to fully embrace being a tourist, obviously! Eventually, I woke up one morning feeling full of energy, mentally and physically, and pain free. Most importantly, I do not need any medications.
Even though I met many great people and worked with amazing therapists, I very often came across a “one size fits all” approach which didn’t work at all for me. Many coaches and therapists could not relate to my life and to my challenges since they have never worked under similar circumstances. After doing a lot of my own research, with trial and error, I ended up creating my own wellness program, activities and practices that suited my needs based on my personality and health needs as well as adapted to my every day professional life. Having tried so many different practices to improve my life and health combined with my people skills, I have the appropriate experience to recommend the best practices to fit everyones individual needs.
I started becoming more passionate about consulting people on how to improve nutrition in a way that is sustainable and help them find their ideal fitness regime and manage their stress. I loved it so much that I have decided to resign from my corporate day job, trained in Health Coaching and Stress Management to open my own Wellness Consultancy.
My programs combine a combination of nutrition, fitness and movement, mindfulness and stress management. Each program is tailored for each individual or company. Medicine Men are not in any of my programs but I can hook you up if you really want to!
